WE HAVE NOW STARTED THE FINAL ASSEMBLY OF OUR ENGINE, AND WE
WILL BE FOLLOWING THE BUILDUP ON THIS PAGE. OUR RESULTS WITH THIS

WE DID NOT HAVE THE CAMERA FOR THE REST OF THE FIRST ASSEMBLY. WE FINISHED
ASSEMBLING THE ENGINE ON SATURDAY, JULY 18TH, AND PUT IT ON THE DYNO THAT
NIGHT FOR A BREAK IN SESSION. WE RAN THE ENGINE FOR A LITTLE BIT AND IT SOUNDED
GREAT. WE DID A SLIGHT PULL (A LITTLE OVER HALF THROTTLE AT 35OO RPM), AND GOT
58HP. WE WERE RUNNING EXTREMELY LEAN, HAD A NOISE IN THE VALVE TRAIN, AND HAD
AN OIL LEAK THAT WE DID NOT LIKE (OUT OF THE TWO REAR CASE STUDS). GIVEN THESE
PROBLEMS, WE OPTED TO TEAR THE WHOLE ENGINE DOWN ON SUNDAY. WE TOOK EVERYTHING
APART AND INSPECTED IT ALL. WE DECIDED THE OIL LEAK WAS JUST DUE TO A LACK OF GLUE,
BUT WE WANTED TO PUT O'RINGS IN THE CASE HALFS SO WE MACHINED A CHAMFER IN FOR
A SEAL. WE FOUND OUT THAT THE VALVE TRAIN NOISE WAS THE CUSTOM RATIO ROCKERS
BOTTOMING OUT ON THE PUSHRODS AT THE FULLY CLOSED POSITION. WHEN WE ORIGINALLY
MEASURED THE RATIO OF OUR ROCKERS, WE WERE SLIGHTLY UPSET TO FIND THAT THEY
WERE ONLY 1.18:1 RATIO. ONCE WE CLEARANCED THEM FOR THE PUSHROD, WE CAME OUT
WITH A WHOPPING 1.31:1 GAINING ANOTHER .040 OF LIFT PUTTING OUR FINAL LIFT AT
.415. WE CLEANED ALL OF THE PARTS AGAIN, REASSEMBLED THE ENGINE, AND HAD IT ON
THE STAND RUNNING BY 1:30AM MONDAY MORNING. MONDAY, JUSTIN, ART, AND DAVE
STARTED PLAYING WITH THE CARBURETOR JETTING AND DID A PULL ON THE ENGINE AND
MADE 82HP AT 3400 RPM, AND 110 FT. LBS. OF TORQUE AT 3500 RPM. WE ARE IN NO WAY
FINISHED TUNING YET, AND THINK WE CAN PULL MORE PONIES OUT OF OUR LITTLE 36HP,
AND HAVE HIGH HOPES OF REACHING 90HP BY THE TIME WE ARE DONE. THESE NEXT

ON THIS SET UP, BUT WE WERE MAKING MORE POWER IN THE RPM RANGE THAT
WE WANTED TO BE IN. WE ALSO MADE MORE TORQUE AT THIS SETTING THAN
WITH ANY OTHER SETTING
